Supply Chain Management Students Collaborate to Bring Ice Cream to Colonels Afar

Happy Clayton, NC, alum with her family enjoys Mad Scoops ice cream

EKU’s signature ice cream flavor, Biz-Tec Blast, will soon be available to ship to Colonels anywhere in the United States!

Two students in Kirby Easterling’s Supply Chain Management class made it their mission to harness the skills they learned in class and create a process that would allow for shipment of Mad Scoops ice cream nationwide.  While the entire class contributed to this project, Kaytlin Siegmundt and Robert Perry took extra responsibility in making the effort come to fruition.

This shipping system was created for friends of EKU, alums, benefactors, and Mad Scoops customers alike. This project benefits both EKU and Mad Scoops, as it generates revenue for both companies.

Erekson, Perry, Siegmundt, and EasterlingKaytlin and Robert briefed College Dean Tom Erekson on how they brought the project to a successful completion. After much trial and error, Kaytlin and Robert were happy to report that EKU is extremely competitive with top ice cream manufacturers. Dean Erekson was enthusiastic about the project, praising Kaytlin and Robert’s passion and hard work. He vowed to do whatever he could to promote and strengthen their efforts.

Their first shipment of ice cream went “flawlessly,” stated Rob. As a trial run, several ice cream flavors were shipped from Richmond, Ky., all the way to Clayton, N. C., in two days. Even after the journey of 525 miles, the ice cream arrived completely frozen, much to the delight of a 1999 EKU alum and her family.

Biz-Tec Blast graphicThe process created by Easterling’s class is ready to be handed over to Mad Scoops where it can be implemented as standard procedure, and Biz-Tec Blast, along with other flavors, can be shipped nationwide.

Be on the lookout for Biz-Tec Blast ice cream from Mad Scoops, coming to a state near you!
