Owens awarded Garden Club Scholarship

Richmond Garden Club President Kitty Sandy awards Ian Owens the clubs second EKU

RICHMOND — The Richmond Garden Club has presented its second horticulture scholarship to Ian Owens.

A native of Somerset and a graduate of Somerset Community College, Owens is a greenhouse management and business major at Eastern Kentucky University.

He has a Kentucky agriculture background. His family founded the Owens Garden Center. With his education, he will assist his family in converting its business into a modern retail nursery.

As his advisor, Prof. Friend, wrote “Ian is an outstanding example of the benefits of education applied to traditional agriculture.”

The guidelines for the RGC scholarship are: Must have completed 30 hours of study at Eastern Kentucky University, have at least a 3.0 GPA, have declared horticulture as major, submit a 500 word essay and complete form, including a letter of recommendation from a professor in the Horticulture Department.
