EKU Maroon SHRM Students Conclude Busy Semester
The Fall semester happens during that special time of year for giving and Eastern Kentucky University’s Society for Human Resource Management Maroon Chapter wanted to be a part of that. This semester they collected donations for the local Kentucky River Foothills Development Council, Inc. Items such as nonperishable food, cleaning items, and personal care items were given by EKU’s faculty, staff, and students, along with a monetary donation, and were delivered to KRFDC following the Thanksgiving break. These items were given to KRFDC’s HEARTH program (Kentucky’s Housing and Emergency Assistance Reaching The Homeless) that helps prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless and helps those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized. Maroon SHRM is proud to have contributed to this worthy cause and hope to work with KRFDC in the future.
EKU’s Maroon SHRM has also had special guests visit with them over the course of this semester. They kicked off the semester with a lesson on job searching from Mr. Jim Fisher, followed by Ms. Mary Raider from EKU’s Career Services. The members of Maroon SHRM were then educated about life after graduation and were given helpful tips and strategies for mastering the certification exam from fellow EKU MBA student, Ms. Kasey Powers. Concluding the guest speaker schedule was Dr. Jeff Houghton, Director of the Master of Science in Industrial Relations program at West Virginia University. He graciously traveled to the College of Business and Technology to explain the importance of a graduate degree in HR with a special emphasis on opportunities to study in the MSIR program at WVU.
Maroon SHRM members are already busy planning their schedule for the spring semester and are looking forward to meeting the speakers they have chosen and hope to see new faces attend their meetings.
