EKU AMA Marketing Club Elects Officers

AMA Marketing Association EKU Chapter Officer for 2016-17

The American Marketing Association EKU Chapter is pleased to announce officers for the 2016-17 academic year.  EKU Marketing Club is a nationally recognized collegiate chapter of the American Marketing Association. EKU is one of the three Kentucky universities which have collegiate chapters currently affiliated with American Marketing Association.

Officers for EKU Marketing Club for this academic year include:

President Nowak said, "The newly elected officers and new members are excited and are very motivated to accomplish goals that they have set for their club and for future members. The rejuvenated club is working hard on planning new and exciting events and competitions such as The American Marketing Association annual international collegiate competition and they are bringing in a local business leader from Big Ass Fans to come and speak to students about his experiences in business!"

He continued, "Our leaders are also planning on working closely with the professional AMA chapter located in Cincinnati. The Cincinnati AMA is putting on several events throughout the calendar year to further professionalism and marketing knowledge as well as network with business leaders."

Open to marketing and other business students, the AMA undertakes real world projects that provide students with professional development opportunities beyond the classroom. Activities include guest speakers, field trips, and interaction with area marketing managers. Paid members get to use the nationwide AMA job database and services.

2016-17 Patterson Scholars Announced

The Department of Management, Marketing and International Business is pleased to announce Patterson Scholars for the 2016-17 academic year.

The Patterson Scholarship is the largest privately funded endowed scholarship fund on Eastern Kentucky University’s campus. Since its establishment in 1997, the endowment is made available to student applicants who have already declared a major in Business and Marketing Education, General Business, Management, or Marketing.

Each student will be awarded $1,500 per semester for two semesters. Requirements for the scholarship are a minimum 24 ACT score and a 3.0 cumulative GPA. Students submit three letters of reference and consideration is given to evidence of leadership and work-related activities.

While this scholarship may be renewed annually, the endowment is entirely conditional upon student involvement in the following areas:

  • Academics
  • Leadership
  • Networking/Social
  • Recruitment
  • Service

Each student scholar is required to attend at least one Spotlight event or other department recruitment event to meet with students and answer questions about Management, Marketing and International Business to fulfill the service obligation. “They are the face of the department,” stated Beth Polin. The Patterson Scholarship Committee is Chaired by Beth Polin.

Aside from recruitment and service obligations, student scholars are also expected to take on leadership roles in campus student organizations and strive to maintain a high level of academic success.

Endowed Chair, Professor Named in Business

Two faculty members in the Eastern Kentucky University School of Business have been awarded an endowed professorship and chair.

Dr. Allen Engle, professor of management, has been named the Harold Glenn Campbell Chair in International Business; and Dr. Lee Allison, assistant professor of marketing, has been awarded the Karl D. Bays Professorship in Business.

SAM Club Kicks off the Year with Exciting Activities

EKU’s chapter of the Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) becan the new academic year with a kickoff party on Tuesday, September 27th. SAM is the world’s oldest professional management society that is well known for preparing students for introduction into the professional management field. SAM allows students to boost their resume as well as giving students the opportunity to meet and network with professionals of various industries.

Officers for EKU’s chapter of SAM for this academic year include:

  • Autumn Blakeman (Treasurer),

  • Robera Legese (General Assistant).

The leadership team is working on several exciting events for the upcoming semester, including a professional development workshop with a business professional from the Lexington Innovation Network that will focus on business strategy and innovation.

In addition to the workshop, plans are underway to bring several guest speakers to campus throughout the semester from various industries to give SAM members insights and advice on working in their field of expertise.

SAM will also be leading an Educators Appreciation Day on November 21st. Join us on that day to thank professors and staff of EKU's School of Business for all they do.
