Barthel Nominated for Golden Apple Award

Congratulations to Laura Barthel, CPA, Lecturer of Corporate Communication and Technology, as a 2013 Golden Apple Award nominee.

The Golden Apple Awards are an annual ceremony held each spring recognizing EKU instructors for their excellence in teaching and encouragement of student success.  Each year University Housing students nominate the faculty they feel are excellent instructors and who have contributed to their success as an EKU student.  Each nominee is recognized as a Golden Apple Award nominee.

An overall Golden Apple Award winner is chosen from each of these areas: College of Arts and Sciences (1 Arts, 1 Sciences), College of Business and Technology, College of Education, College of Health Science, College of Justice and Safety and Other University Areas.

MMIB students recognized at annual Student-Athlete Academic Awards breakfast

SAASC awards breakfast

Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes gathered in the Keen Johnson Ballroom on April 10th for the annual Student-Athlete Academic Awards Breakfast. The event, hosted by the Bratzke Center, featured EKU President Doug Whitlock as guest speaker and honored more than 275 student-athletes for academic achievement over the past year.

Dr. Gene Palka, Director of the Bratzke Center, congratulated all of the honorees and acknowledged the tremendous academic success experienced by each of the EKU teams. Forty-three students in the College of Business and Technology received awards for their achievements including these awards to students from the Department of Management, Marketing and International Business:

  • OVC Medal of Honor: Student-Athletes who achieved a 4.0 GPA for the previous academic year
  • Bratzke Award of Excellence: The student-athlete who achieved the highest GPA on their team for the previous academic year
  • Chi Alpha Sigma: A national honor society recognizing student-athletes with 60 hours or more, who have a 3.40 or higher cumulative GPA, have earned a varsity letter and are of high moral character
  • Dean’s List: Students who achieved a GPA in accordance with the university’s requirements
  • OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll: Student-Athletes who achieved a 3.25 GPA for the previous academic year
  • Colonel Scholar: Student-athletes who have achieved a 3.00 GPA in either or both of the previous semesters

EKU School of Business Students Receive Outstanding Co-op/Intern Awards

Congratulations to Department of Management, Marketing and International Business students who were nominated by their employers for Outstanding Co-op/Intern of the year. 

An awards ceremony for all nominees was held on Tuesday, April 9th at 3:30 p.m. in the EKU Charles D. Whitlock Student Services Building Auditorium to recognize their achievement.

MMIB selects Will McIntosh as 2013 distinguished alum

Will McIntosh

EKU's Department of Management, Marketing and International Business, along with the School of Business, is pleased to announce that Dr. Will McIntosh has been selected as their departmental distinguished alum for 2013.

Dr. McIntosh was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the annual College of Business and Technology College to Careers senior recognition luncheon.

The honor is reserved for special alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professions through excellence, dedication, and service.

Dr. McIntosh earned his Bachelors in Business Education from EKU in 1977. He also holds an MBA as well as a PhD in Finance and Real Estate. 

Dr. McIntosh is currently the Global Head of Research with USAA Real Estate Company in San Antonio, Texas, where he is responsible for developing commercial real estate investment strategy and managing in-house global research. He possesses extensive financial executive experience in global investment management, serving most recently as head of global research for the real estate department of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

During his 20-plus years in the investment management industry, Dr. McIntosh served as managing director for ING Real Estate Investment Management, AIG Global Real Estate Investment Corp. and Prudential Global Asset Management Group. He has held several academic posts, most recently dean of the University of Cincinnati’s College of Business. He was inducted into the EKU Hall of Distinguished Alumni in 2003.

Congratulations Dr. McIntosh on being selected as the 2013 Distinguished Alum representing the Department of Management, Marketing and International Business.

The college also honored distinguished seniors for the year as selected by their respective departments within the College of Business and Technology. Ms. Rebekah McGee, a human resource management major from Mount Vernon, Ky., was selected as the MMIB departmental distinguished senior. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2012-13 academic year were recognized. Students were honored for outstanding achievement and more than 40 area employers were on hand to engage in networking activities with college graduating seniors.

Rebekah McGee

Ms. Rebekah McGee has been named the 2013 Distinguished Senior for EKU's Department of Management, Marketing and International Business. She was honored during a presentation on Friday, April 5, 2013, at the annual College of Business and Technology College to Careers senior recognition luncheon.

The student is selected based on superior academic achievement, excellent leadership, citizenship, character and services to EKU.

McGee, a human resource management major from Mount Vernon, Ky., plans to graduate this coming December. During her time at EKU, she has earned numerous distinctions and served in leadership capacities across campus.  She is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Alpha Sigma Lambda, and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) for both the National and Bluegrass organizations.

Community service is an important part of her life.  She is the secretary/treasurer for Joyful Life Ministries and has served as a team captain and participant for in events for diabetes as well as Junior Achievement.  She is a foster parent who loves writing poetry, blogging, reading, ballroom dancing and supporting local artists.

At the luncheon, the college honored distinguished seniors and distinguished alumni from each of the academic departments within the College of Business and Technology. Dr. Will McIntosh was selected as the MMIB departmental distinguished alum. In addition, recipients of scholarships and awards for the 2012-13 academic year were recognized. CBT College to Careers Recognition Luncheon

The Department of Management, Marketing and International Business is pleased to announce scholarship and awards recipients for the 2012-13 academic year. 

These outstanding students were acknowledged for their exceptional achievement at the College of Business and Technology annual College to Careers Recognition Luncheon on April 5.

Engle inducted into EKU Society of Foundation Professors

EKU President Doug Whitlock and Foundation Professor Allen Engle, Sr.

EKU's Society of Foundation Professors inducted their newest member for 2013-15 in a formal ceremony on April 2nd.  Dr. Allen D. Engle Sr., professor of management in the School of Business,  was honored with the prestigious recognition - the highest honor an EKU faculty member can receive.  EKU Foundation Professorship recognizes excellence in the classroom and dedication to students.

The Society of Foundation Professors was formed in 1987 by the EKU Foundation to recognize "creative, self-motivated exemplars of the ideal college professor."
